While the ART ratio is a useful tool, it's just one of many financial metrics used in financial modeling. By understanding how to calculate and interpret this ratio, investors and analysts can make more informed decisions about a company's credit policies and collection processes. ConclusionĪccounts Receivable Turnover is a key financial ratio that provides valuable insights into a company's financial health and efficiency. Therefore, it's crucial to regularly review and adjust credit policies and collection processes to ensure they are effective and in line with the company's financial goals. Too strict credit policies could deter potential clients, while too lenient policies could lead to slow-paying clients and cash flow problems. However, it's important to strike a balance. This could be achieved by tightening credit policies, improving debt collection processes, or offering incentives for early payment. ![]() Improving the ART ratio involves either increasing net credit sales or decreasing average accounts receivable. This can provide a more accurate picture of how a company is performing relative to its peers. It's also important to compare the ART ratio with industry averages and competitor figures. ![]() However, it could also indicate that the company is extending credit to high-risk clients. This could be a sign of lenient credit policies or ineffective debt collection practices. However, an extremely high ratio could also mean that the company's credit policies are too strict, potentially driving away potential clients.Ī low ratio, on the other hand, indicates that the company's clients are slow to pay their debts. A high ratio indicates that the company's clients are paying their debts quickly, which is a positive sign. Once the ART ratio is calculated, it's important to understand what it means. On the other hand, a low ART ratio may indicate that the company's credit policies are too lenient, leading to slow-paying clients and a potential cash flow problem. This is crucial for any business as it allows them to reinvest in their operations, pay off their own debts, return money to shareholders, and survive downturns in the market. A high turnover ratio indicates that the company's clients pay their debts quickly, which means the company has a healthy cash flow. The ART ratio is a key indicator of a company's financial health. Why is Accounts Receivable Turnover Important? This ratio gives investors and analysts an idea of how well a company's credit policies are working and how efficiently its collection process is. To the Utah Legislature - this one, simple bill can show Utah families that you will put us first in 2022 with the ban of copay accumulators. Insurance companies would still get paid, patient assistance programs would pay the same amount, but the bill would prevent families from going bankrupt by this anti-family policy.Ī dozen states have already instituted this commonsense reform and Utah can be lucky No. Legislation backed by the Utah All Copays Count Coalition - a coalition of dozens of Utah groups representing patients from across the state - would ban copay accumulators. ![]() With a simple, straightforward reform, the Utah Legislature can end this unfair and unnecessary burden on patients and their families. These are decisions no parent should have to make. Families that are in less financially secure situations will soon be choosing between attending vital multidisciplinary cystic fibrosis clinic appointments and filling prescriptions that help their children live or putting food on their tables and paying their mortgages. My husband has a good job as an engineer, and we have still gone into medical debt trying to keep our daughter healthy. Insurance companies are taking away a critical source of financial relief that thousands of Utahans rely on. The manufacturer pays the same amount regardless, but the patient is the only part of the equation who loses.įor my family, not having this critical assistance count toward our deductible could result in us losing access to a drug that keeps my daughter alive and thriving. That means, after the bill is paid, the insurance company essentially “double dips” and is paid for our deductible twice, once by the pharmaceutical company and once by us. Then we heard from our insurance company Our insurance company implemented a “copay accumulator program,” which is great for the insurance company - and a huge financial threat to families like ours.īasically, copay accumulator programs allow insurance companies to accept financial assistance from drug manufacturers, but they don’t allow this assistance to go toward a patient’s insurance deductible. This helps our family immensely and without it I doubt we could afford the medication. The company that makes the drug, Vertex Pharmaceuticals, offers a copay assistance card to help patients afford the drug. This miracle has a big price tag, about $25,000 a month. These drugs have been a true miracle for our family, and Penny is absolutely thriving! We no longer worry about her life expectancy and expect her to grow up and become whatever and whoever she wants. With the medication, Penny is able to gain weight, her lung function is through the roof and she has avoided a hospital stay since she was 4 months old, which is exceedingly uncommon for CF patients. This past year, she changed to a newly approved drug called Trikafta which addresses both of the mutations that caused her CF. This drug caused her pancreas to begin working, and she was able to completely stop the 20 or so pills that she had needed to digest her food. When she was 2, the FDA approved a lifesaving medication for her age group. She caught every cold, and we struggled to keep her out of the hospital due to lung infections. At her peak she was taking more than 25 pills a day to be able to digest her food and keep her body functioning as it should. ![]() Penny started taking medications at 3 weeks old and by 8 months old she was swallowing pills. She does two or more hours a day when she is sick. Today, Penny does an hour of treatments per day - when she is healthy. ![]() Nothing about the pain of my pregnancy and labor compares to being told how our sweet daughter’s life could be cut short by this awful disease. When Penny was newly diagnosed, we were told her life expectancy would be 38 years old. CF is a genetic, progressive, life-limiting disease that primarily affects the respiratory and digestive systems. Penny was ultimately diagnosed with cystic fibrosis (CF). Over the next three weeks I noticed some symptoms I didn’t expect and had her in the pediatrician’s office weekly. My husband and I were thrilled she was here, and instantly fell in love with our darling daughter. With one simple, commonsense reform, our Legislature can significantly ease this needless burden on families across our state.Įight years ago my darling, vivacious, sassy, and independent daughter, Penny, was born after a difficult and complicated pregnancy and a long labor. Paying for innovative, effective, lifesaving medications for families like ours who have a child living with a chronic and deadly disease is a huge financial burden that is exacerbated by insurance company policies that refuse to recognize essential prescription assistance Utah families receive. ![]() To change something that had been so integral to the plot before is never an easy task, but I knew as soon as I made the decision that the story would be stronger for it. Chapters and chapters had been dedicated to Scarlet and Wolf trying to find out more about his past-hunting down police records and the like-and those chapters now either had to be deleted or altered to fit with Wolf’s new reality. So I decided to do away with the amnesia entirely, which changed the basis of a lot of scenes throughout the book. I wanted him to be filled with internal conflict that stemmed from conflicting loyalties to Scarlet and to his Pack (which wasn’t possible when he had no idea who or what a Pack was). ![]() But in reading that draft, I was unhappy with how passive of a character this made him. I review those BIG issues I want to fix and start brainstorming solutions.įor example, in the first draft of Scarlet, Wolf had amnesia-he couldn’t remember anything of his life prior to arriving in this small town in France. Once I’ve finished my read-through, I’m starting to have a sense of what’s working in the book and what’s really, really not working. Plan the Revisions, Starting with the Big Stuff ![]() Or, Give Cinder something to do during this conversation-maybe have her fixing something? Or, Give Thorne a knife here (he needs it later).ģ. These will be things like: Insert Iko into this chapter. I note these changes in the “Document Notes” portion of Scrivener, so that they’re kept separate for each chapter. I’m noting smaller changes on a chapter-by-chapter basis. I’m looking for things like plot holes, flimsy characterization, twists that seem contrived, villains that are too boring or too easily defeated, romances that don’t sizzle, and the like.ģ. I’m updating my list of BIG changes I want to make (I almost always have a list started from back when I was writing the first draft and already thinking up things that needed fixing). She sees Cinder on the netscreens and stands up for her. We learn that her grandmother is missing.Ĭhapter 2: Scarlet meets Wolf in the tavern. Not using Scrivener? You can do the same thing by making a list in a separate Word file, i.e.:Ĭhapter 1: Scarlet is delivering food to the tavern. This way, when I’m done, I’ll be able to look at the 2-3 sentence summary for each chapter and know what happens in it. I’m updating the synopses (aka notecards summaries) for each chapter in the Scrivener file. While I’m reading, I’m simultaneously doing three things:ġ. I try to read the first draft as quickly as possible (within a day or two), so I can get a feel for the big picture. I might fix a typo here or there, but anything more complicated than that gets marked as something to fix later. I am not making changes when I read this draft. So it goes.īut before we can make anything better, we have to figure out what’s wrong with it, which is why this initial read-through is very important. No matter how inspired I was, no matter how thorough my outline, no matter how excited for the story-the first draft is inevitably a disaster. Reading through the first draft is often a humbling experience. I separate each scene into a different Scrivener chapter file. So for me, the first step of writing the second draft of a book is to transfer the text of the first draft into Scrivener. But I still prefer to write my first drafts in Word, because it’s easier for me to keep track of word counts and my daily word goals. It really plays to my neurotic sense of organization (more on that later). I started using Scrivener with Cress, and I love it. I’ll include notes following each step for how I used to do this before I had Scrivener.ġ. I’m a big fan of Scrivener, but it’s certainly not necessary. Note: This is the stage where I start using Scrivener, an organizational software program for writers. The second draft is the most complicated stage of my writing process, and half the time I feel like I have to re-learn this part with each new book, but I’ll do my best to break it down into something that seems halfway logical… Naturally, the first stage in revisions is. Once I’ve had some time away from my first draft, it’s time to start in on revisions. ![]() Please note that children aged 5 and under do not count towards the occupancy of the home.
